HP reported that it plans on discontinuing operations for webOS devices, namely its TouchPad and phones based on webOS. This might not come as surprise, especially considering that TouchPad hasn’t had the greatest of times when it comes to sales.

To be honest, the OS had potential, but that’s basically all it ever had. Sales weren’t quite great and the same goes for apps and updates. This means that smartphones are now one OS competitor lighter, leaving Android, WP7, iOS and Blackberry.

Naturally, HP is trying to make things seem as not so bad and claims it is exploring other options. These options will include HP’s own and third party devices, licensing, other manufacturers, etc. Yup, it’s dead all right.
